Statement Release UN Liaison Director for Adventist Church Expresses Condolences at Death of UN Human Rights Commissioner UN Liaison Director for the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Dr. Jonathan Gallagher, expressed his sadness over the tragic death of Mr. Sergio Vieira de Mello, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. “Mr. de Mello was a man of peace who advocated for the rights of others, Jonathan said. “It’s sad that his life ended in such a violent and tragic way. We share in the sadness of other UN staff who were also killed during the bombing.” Sergio was killed when terrorists blew up the UN headquarters in Baghdad, killing at least 15 others and injuring dozens more. De Mello was in Baghdad on a four-month assignment. |
